When we started The B Hive Apiary, we had no idea that we would find a new passion in helping women make friends not only in their personal lives but also in their businesses and careers. But even beyond that, that we would help those same women seeking solace in the friendships of other professionals to actually build their businesses and careers.
What started as a small book club to make new friends has grown to…TWO book clubs!
As we’ve learned, experimented and grown with The B Hive Academy, we knew at some point we would need to return to our roots and start a book club again…but this time not just for women who are local to Austin. Because the thing is…The B Hive Academy is not just for Austin women! It’s for everyone, across the country and even across the world!!!
So we began a book club, but all online. So, no matter where you are, you can join us in a lively discussion about the professional, personal or business development book we’re reading. But even better – we break it all down. Because we know as busy, professional women it can be hard to read an entire book in a month, or even over any period of time. Who really has time to read anymore!?
Our books are broken down into weekly “assignments” and we go live in our Facebook Group to discuss each “assignment” each week! For our very first book, we selected Girl Wash Your Face by Rachel Hollis. Which ended up being totally appropriate because Rachel Hollis lives in Austin! (We only discovered this AFTER we selected the book!).
Haven’t heard of Girl, Wash Your Face? Here’s a brief synopsis via GoodReads:
With wry wit and hard-earned wisdom, popular online personality and founder of TheChicSite.com founder Rachel Hollis helps readers break free from the lies keeping them from the joy-filled and exuberant life they are meant to have.
Founder of the lifestyle website TheChicSite.com and CEO of her own media company, Chic Media, Rachel Hollis has created an online fan base of hundreds of thousands of fans by sharing tips for living a better life while fearlessly revealing the messiness of her own. Now comes her highly anticipated first book featuring her signature combination of honesty, humor, and direct, no-nonsense advice.
Each chapter of Girl, Wash Your Face begins with a specific lie Hollis once believed that left her feeling overwhelmed, unworthy, or ready to give up. As a working mother, a former foster parent, and a woman who has dealt with insecurities about her body and relationships, she speaks with the insight and kindness of a BFF, helping women unpack the limiting mind-sets that destroy their self-confidence and keep them from moving forward.
From her temporary obsession with marrying Matt Damon to a daydream involving hypnotic iguanas to her son’s request that she buy a necklace to “be like the other moms,” Hollis holds nothing back. With unflinching faith and tenacity, Hollis spurs other women to live with passion and hustle and to awaken their slumbering goals.
We LOVED this book. Now there were some caveats for some of the ladies who read along with us, many were not parents so we couldn’t always relate to the parts of the books that were about being a mom…but Rachel definitely created some points for each chapter that were relatable to EVERYONE, whether you were a mom or not. Initally we felt that the book was definitely for someone who was just starting to get into self development, but as we got further into the book we liked it even more and found her advice and experiences completely meaningful and actionable.
We’re excited to start our next book! Want to get the inside scoop? You can register for our Digital Book Club and get in on our next book!
